Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company celebrates Isadora's 138th birthday on Saturday, May 2 with a program of dances by Isadora's beloved composer, Frederic Chopin.

Dancers Lori Belilove, Kim D'Agnese, Emily D'Angelo, Faith Kimberling, Morgana Rose Mellett, and Nikki Poulos will perform signature solos, duets, and ensemble dances at our intimate Chelsea studio. The evening will feature live piano accompaniment by Matthew Martin Ward.  Party to follow. Join us to mingle with the dancers and hear about the Company's latest news, and partake a generous reception of foods, including Isadora's favorite German Chocolate Cake and bubbly!

Excitement of the evening will include the three raffle winners called out to receive Isadora's My Life autobiography.

This year the Foundation will host a Bazaar with selected items on sales throughout the month of May, in honor of Isadora's birthday month. Items include rare and out-of-print books, lesson plans, DVDs, posters, tunics, scarves, and wreaths.

The evening is an ideal introduction to the art of Isadora Duncan, the undisputed visionary of American modern dance. This particular program of masterworks created from as early as 1900 through to 1918 will emphasize Isadora's unique musical phrasing and dynamic boldness. From the buoyant Butterfly Etude and vivacious Minute Waltz, to the mysterious Death and the Maiden, the program will reflect Isadora's immense compassion for life. The Nocturne in E-flat duet quietly reflects on universal love and hope as the figure of the angel reaches out to the recumbent, depressed figure who rises uplifted after a struggle.  Company dancers will perform the sensual and passionate themes of the dances in the Gypsy Mazurka, Ballspiel, and Slow Mazurka. The program will conclude with the effervescent Valse Brilliante.

The evening is appropriate for lovers of dance of all ages.
