photo of Ryan Johnson, facilitator for Steppin' into Cultural Competency Ryan Johnson

This 90-minute immersive professional development workshop focuses on transforming teaching practices to advance and unpack anti-racist beliefs and biases by enhancing cultural competency. Participants will explore Black vernacular and engage in intensive movement with percussive dance style while connecting it to action and activism.

Join award-winning performing artist Ryan Johnson as he guides this discussion and leads the group in dance.

Not only is Johnson an award-winning performing artist, he is also the Founding Artistic Director of SOLE Defined Percussive Dance Company. Johnson seeks to provoke, inspire, and hold space for cultural conversation and reflection by presenting historically informed, intellectually demanding, and genre-infused performance, and community dance engagement activities.
