Cathy Weis Projects announces the winter season of Sundays on Broadway, an ongoing series featuring film screenings, performances, readings, and all manner of gatherings on Sunday evenings, January 25–March 29, 2015. All events are free and open to the public

Sundays on Broadway grew out of The Salon Series, a project started by choreographer and video artist Cathy Weis in 2003 that featured select artists presenting their work, in various stages of development, to small, diverse audiences. The winter series kicks off with encore screenings of the 9 Evenings: Theatre and Engineering films directed by Barbro Schultz Lundestam and produced by Billy Klüver and Julie Martin for Experiments in Art and Technology. Curated by Julie Martin and Cathy Weis, ten films will be screened over the course of ten hours. Films include: David Tudor’s Bandoneon! (a combine)John Cage’s Variations VIIDeborah Hay’s Solo, Övynid Fahlström’s Kisses Sweeter than WineRobert Rauschenberg’s Open ScoreYvonne Rainer’s Carriage DiscretenessSteve Paxton’s Physical ThingsRobert Whitman’s Two Holes of Water – 3Alex Hay’s Grass Field, and Lucinda Childs’ Vehicle. A detailed schedule is available on the Cathy Weis Projects.

In February, Martin and Weis will present three additional film screenings followed by discussions:  a selection of Trisha Brown’s early works, a screening of Léonide Massine’s Choreartium, and early and recent work by Simone Forti. Also in February, puppet artist Dan Hurlin will present a short talk and reading from his new work-in-progress.

In March, Weis will share a program with longtime collaborator Jennifer Miller, in which which they will each present a work in development followed by an improvisation for both artists. Over four weekends in March, WeisAcres will present an immersive installation in two parts. For the performance component, Weis will again collaborate with dance artists Jennifer MillerJon Kinzel, and Vicky Shick, building on their shared evenings in 2014 and featuring new improvisational scores designed to showcase dance in the present moment. The other component of the installation will feature footage of notable but rarelyseen dance works from the 1980s designed to be viewed through the haze of a crystal ball created by Aaron Parsekian
