Tap Treasures Hunt and Tour 2015

In honor of National Tap Dance Day (May 25th), the American Tap Dance Foundation would like to invite you to participate in our Tap Treasures Hunt & Tour.

This 1-week-event features 7 hidden locations (plus 1 BONUS) in New York City that are significant to the development and history of the American born, Tap Dance. 

The ATDF has specially selected these locations to fill your brain with rhythms, history, and fun-facts ALL about tap dance. Your job is to decode clues, visit locations, and take photos at every location by following your Tap Treasures Map (available on May 17th). From legendary theaters, to rehearsal space, we want to share with you some pivotal tap dance history and the role that each location has played, or continues to do so, in New York City and beyond. There are also multiple opportunities for PRIZES.

There is a PRIZE for the participant/group who adds the most creativity to posted photos (edited photos, poems, videos, selfie, costume?), and a GRAND PRIZE for the participant(s) who completes the entire hunt the fastest!  The GRAND PRIZE is a $500 Gift Certificate, which can be used on Class, Tap City, Merchandise, and more. An ADDITIONAL PRIZE will also be awarded if our winning participant(s) also visits the BONUS location.

Here’s how it works:

1. All participants must sign-up to participate by calling the American Tap Dance Center.

Fees for play:

$20/individual

$30/couple

$50/family of 5 or less (additional $5/person if more than 5 participating)

Ex: 7 people together= $50+  (2x$5) = $60

Cash, Check, or Credit Cards are accepted

2. During the week of May 17-24th, all signed-up participants will visit ALL 7 Tap Treasures Locations, and possibly even the BONUS Location, in hopes of being the FASTEST hunter. The ATDF will provide all participants with a Treasure Map which holds fill-in-the-blanks. These become hints for which Treasured locations in NYC to visit. At each location, participants will take a photo, and post the photo to the ATDF’s Facebook Page! FASTEST HUNTER WINS!

Exact instructions for play will be provided on the Tap Treasures Map.

3. Pick up Tap Treasures Map from the American Tap Dance Center on the Day of May 17th (first day of hunt) between the hours of 11-5pm.

*Forget to sign up? No worries, we can still provide you with a map at any time during the hunt, but you have to complete it by May 23rd!

4. EXPLORE, EXPLORE, EXPLORE! On your own time, you must visit ALL secret Tap Dance locations. Participants do not need to visit the treasured locations in any particular order. At the site of each treasured location you must take a photo of YOU/ENTIRE GROUP (be creative!). Don’t forget to fill-in the answers to the clue in your Treasure Map for each visited location. Also, remember to post your photos promptly after your visit, because the grand prize winner is the FASTEST hunter!

5. On May 24th, at the ATDF’s National Tap Dance Day celebration performance (Time TBA), all individuals who complete the Treasure Hunt must turn in their finished Treasure Maps. The winners (FASTEST, Most Creative, and maybe more!) will be announced. Our GRAND PRIZE winner will also be featured in our June ATDF Newsletter!
