The Joffrey Ballet's ROMEO & JULIET

Scene from ROMEO & JULIET Cheryl Mann

The Joyce Theater Foundation is thrilled to bring The Joffrey Ballet to New York to perform Krzysztof Pastor’s magnificent re-mounting of his 2008 production of Romeo & Juliet, which had its U.S. premiere in Chicago with the Joffrey in spring 2014. Set in 20thcentury Italian society, this updated version of the classic story is especially relevant for contemporary audiences as it goes beyond an exploration of family strife to position Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers against a backdrop of complicated politics and war.  Propelled by Sergei Prokofiev's lushly dramatic 1935 score - accompanied by the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra: Members of the Chicago Philharmonic - Pastor’s classical yet contemporary ballet version of Romeo & Juliet, “might just be the most eloquent, rapturous, emotionally searing ‘translation’ of the story you will ever see.” – The Chicago Sun-Times
