Urban Bush Women's Generative Dancer Workshop

A dancer in a flowing pink and purple outfit leaps gracefully against a deep purple background with swirling orange lines. Urban Bush Women

May 19 - 21, 2025 | 11 AM - 4 PM

This 3-day workshop will take participants through UBW’s creative choreographic lab. Each day includes time for lunch and two 15-minute breaks.

The participants will engage in a process-based approach to UBW’s art-making. The process-based investigations are informed by the artists in the room, involve iterative cycles of rigorous embodied research grounded in Black Feminist Theory, and exploring pelvic mobility to access locomotion, memories, and medicine. Additionally, practices will center radical Black experimentation in the focus of culture, politics, identity, and history.

Each day will be structured with:

- Movement-based warm-up
- Structured Improvisation/Investigation/Solo Practice: How we “research” our physicality through prompts and ideas
- Research: Participants will engage in a Theatre Dance Lecture series

Previous composition is highly encouraged.
