VIM VIGOR is a physical dance theater company under the artistic direction of Shannon Gillen. Interested in founding a collaborative think tank in the US, where the most innovative and profoundly gifted artists could come together to create cutting edge dance theater, VIM VIGOR is home to six artists hailing from around the world. The company represents a paradigm shift in the creative process, with all original music, writing, set, media and movement created collaboratively. In addition to generating and performing original works, VIM is dedicated to elevating and nurturing the professional lives of young dance artists and to cultivating public interest in the dance-theater art form by finding innovative ways to combine heroic physicality, electric emotional life and cinematic imagery. ////// SUMMER 2017

VIM VIGOR's summer intensive is anchored in the company's commitment to activating the whole of the performer, from the extremes of virtuosic dance to the fluid awareness of emotion and experience.

The program is focused on professional development with daily contemporary floorwork classes that improve dancers' ability to access their natural stealth and power into and out of the floor, as well as conditioning classes aimed at supporting healthy alignment and stability. Then in the afternoon the company will offer workshops focused on improvisation, contact partnering and momentum based mechanics, VIM VIGOR repertory, acting exploration essential for dancers interested in dance theater, creative exchange with the company, roundtable community discussions, and an experiential sharing at the end of the two weeks.

To Apply:
Send a letter of interest along with these supporting materials: Summer Program Form, resume, headshot, and video links. Video links should include two consecutive minutes of your dancing (choreographed phrasework and improvisation are both acceptable, but no editing please). Location:
VIM VIGOR's creative home is with New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble in Summit, NJ. As artists in residence we have found that this incredible facility provides not only world-class studios, but a quiet and focused place in which we are able to dig deeper into our work. In this light, we are very pleased to host our Summer Program at NJDTE in August 2017. A direct train ride from NYC, the studios are a five minute walk from the station, and the town center is a safe and friendly area with coffee shops, restaurants, and more for relaxing (and recovering!) after the day's work.
