Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition

The 7th Annual Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition, rewarding excellence in both classical and modern dance, returns June 6-10.  There will also be presentation of an award to Arthur Mitchell for his major contributions to the world of dance over the years.  Semi-finals have already been held in Argentina and Russia, and New York will see more Rounds (Tuesday & Wednesday); Rounds for Contemporary Dance (Thursday); Finals on Friday; announcement of the winners of medals, monetary awards, scholarships to schools around the world, and company contracts on Sat. at 6 PM, and a Gala Performance at 7 PM with appearances by the medalists, guests Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, and presentation to Arthur Mitchell.   The entrants number more than 100, ages 11-25, from Russia to Ireland to Brazil.  They will dance for a remarkable jury led by Andris Liepa, and including Virginia Johnson, Charles Jude, Nina Ananiashvili, Nikolai Tsiskaridze, and other renowned figures in the dance world.   Daily events vary, so for times and specifics, please visit the website at www.vkibc.org
