altered natives’ Say Yes to Another Excess – TWERK

altered natives’ Say Yes to Another Excess – TWERK

Bengolea and Chaignaud skim the line between popular dance and trained choreography, drawing on their immersion in club culture from London to New York. With dancers Alex Mugler, Ana Pi, and Elisa Yvelin—as well as London grime scene DJs Elijah andSkilliam of the label Butterz—they move from Martha Graham’s technique to house, challenging the expressive, communal, poetic, and discursive powers of dance.

altered natives’ Say Yes to Another Excess –TWERK is part of DANSE: A French-American Festival of Performance and Ideas, New York City, May 1-18, 2014, organized by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States with additional support from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, Institut français, Région Poitou-Charentes, and FUSED, a program from New England Foundation for the Arts’s National Dance Project in partnership with FACE and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.http://frenchculture.org/DANSE
