koosil-ja / danceKUMIKO: I am capitalism

koosil-ja / danceKUMIKO: I am capitalism

In this new work, koosil-ja, along with Geoff Matters, continues her research on Body—dealing this time with the psyche of capitalism embedded in her own. Capitalism creates, flees, captures, and kills. We love and hate power. We obey and resist. We plug ourselves to the social structure that produces lack and fear, but what we want is something else. For I am capitalism, Matters and koosil-ja contemplate how the psyche of capitalism has taken over the body and they exorcise it, channeling various sources and conjuring movement, video, text, light, and sound. The project is created in collaboration with Nick Bixby, Brian Chase, Melissa Guerrero, David Or, andRyan Seelig. Organized by Matthew Lyons.

September 10–12, 8pm
Tickets $15

This project was developed, beginning in 2011, with grants from the MAP Fund, the National Endowment for the Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, New Music USA, and the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography.
