Attend the Dance Critics Association Conference, June 22-24, at Special Dance/NYC Rate

The Dance Critics Association is inviting New York City Dance Artists who receive this notice through Dance/NYC to join them at the DCA's 2012 Conference being held June 22-24 at the Joan Weill Center for Dance, home of the Alvin Ailey school and companies. NYC dance artists can take advantage of special rates rates including a special one-day rate of $50 (a 50% discount off the regular one-day rate) for any day of the conference.

Called "21st Century Dance Writing: Multimedia, Multiarts, Multitasking," the DCA 2012 Conference will look at some of the current issues impacting the field of dance and dance writers. Highlights will include a keynote panel led by Virginia Johnson, artistic director of the Dance Theatre of Harlem and Dance/NYC Advisory Committee member, on how changes in the cultural landscape have impacted changes in dance coverage. Other panels will include sessions on the state of dance criticism today, the growth of dance on television, the role of the dance critic - snark or praise, and choreographers who use language in dance.

Dance/NYC discount details:
  • Dance artists associated with Dance/NYC can get the member pre-registration rate for the full conference.

  • We will offer a special one day registration rate of $50 (a 50% discount off the regular price).

  • People do not need to prove they are a Dance/NYC associated dance artist. Just say you are and list your affiliation or role and that is good enough.

  • If at least 20 people respond to this offer, we will extend an extra group discount of $10 off per person of the full conference rate (which is currently $150) or $5 off of the Dance/NYC one-day rate. If 40 people respond, we will make that $20 off of the full conference rate or $10 off of the Dance/NYC one-day rate.

**If anyone wants to attend the conference, but can't afford these special rates, DCA will consider trades (such as for volunteer help, writing or press tickets) on a case by case basis.
