Advocacy Alert: Executive Budget for DCA

Dear New Yorker:

New York City has released its Executive Budget for FY 2014, and it is time for all of us who care about dance and culture to make the case for public funding.

The FY14 Executive Budget allocates $88.1 million to the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), including $14.1 million to programs and $69 million to the Cultural Institutions Group, a total reduction of $4 million from preliminary figures released in January. The FY 2013 budget at adoption ultimately allocated $155.6 million to the agency.

Join Dance/NYC in requesting a restoration of funds to adopted FY 2013 levels and advocating the possibility of an increase.

Please join us in giving testimony to the City Council on June 3 and connect with your legislative representatives-by phone, letter, e-mail, fax, or better still, in person. Forward, post, and tweet this e-mail to your friends and colleagues.

To help make your case for funding, use Dance/NYC research, including its recent State of NYC Dance reports and the Junior Committee's Workforce Census: Earnings Among Individuals, Ages 21-35.

With your help, I know we will succeed in keeping the arts in our City vibrant,

Lane
