Today, Dance/NYC releases a statement from American Ballet Theatre soloist Misty Copeland as part of its NEW YORKERS FOR DANCE campaign spotlighting the role and opportunity of dance in the metropolitan area. Misty, who authored a children’s book, Firebird, released this fall, says “says so much of what I do is bringing outreach programs to underprivileged children” and offers, “I think it is important for people to see a brown ballerina.
