Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Week in NYC
Join Dance/NYC in celebrating New York City's immigrant heritage this week, April 16-22. The City of New York is the ultimate city of immigrants. Each year, New Yorkers hold a week-long celebration of our collective immigrant heritage – Immigrant Heritage Week (IHW). The theme this year is: A City of Immigrants: United in Action. The Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) has compiled a brochure of celebratory events happening throughout the week. Check out MOIA's event guide here: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/immigrants/about/special-events.page.
Dance/NYC’s new Immigrant Artists Initiative aims to extend the role of dance artistry in fostering the inclusion, integration, and human rights of the more than three million immigrants in the New York City metropolitan area, while shaping urgent public discussion about changing demographics and immigrant affairs. Check out foundational research, New York City's Foreign-Born Dance Workforce Demographics, and online resources, and save the date for a free conference on September 21, presented with MOIA and the Queens Theatre. Please continue to visit Dance.NYC for initiative updates, and join the Immigrant Artists Network to receive information on immigrant dance activity in the New York City metropolitan area.
