When: Sunday, January 12, 2020, 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Where: Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Center for the Performing Arts, 280 Broadway, New York, NY, 10003 (entrance at 53A Chambers Street)
Accessibility: Gibney Dance is an accessible venue. Wheelchair ramps and elevators are available via the 280 Broadway entrance. All restrooms are gender inclusive and wheelchair accessible. Second-floor restrooms are wheelchair accessible through the dressing rooms. Studios and rooms are lit by fluorescent lights. About: Conceived by choreographer Camille A. Brown, The Gathering serves as an open forum for intergenerational black female artists to support one another and to advocate for greater cultural equity and acknowledgement in the contemporary dance world.
The Gathering 2020 Workshops are presented by Camille A. Brown & Dancers in partnership with The Field, Dance/NYC, Gibney, Angela’s Pulse, and The International Association of Blacks in Dance. Facilitated by Shawn René Graham, Deputy Director, Programs and Services at The Field.

10:00-11:30am | I. Government and Institutional Funding Sources

You have already received funding from some very notable sources like the Jerome Foundation and Rockefeller Brothers Fund. It put some pep in your step, but what’s next? Walk away with useful tools and key strategies for cultivating new funders and submitting competitive grant proposals.

Whether you’re just starting out or have been creating work for a long time, you have some considerations to make about what type of business you are. Should you be an LLC, a Sole Proprietor or a 501 C 3? Get tips on tools to deciding on which one.
3:10-4:00pm | Panel II - What Kind of Business Am I?
Attorneys and accountant(s) will give further advice and answer questions.
