Town Hall: Engaging Dance Audiences

This event has already occurred. Please enjoy video and event information below.
When: Tuesday, February 4, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Where: The STREB Lab for Action Mechanics (SLAM), 51 North 1st Street, Brooklyn, NY

Join Dance/ NYC on February 4th at SLAM for a discussion about Engaging Dance Audiences. Through EDA, Dance/USA has invested in helping the dance field experiment with ways to foster two-way relationships with those who attend and better understanding why they attend, EDA’s end goal is to increase the dance field’s connection with audiences who can ultimately support artists and work.

Learn from NY-based grantees who have developed and tested new programs, both live and online. Peer speakers will share their new models and strategies, particularly those that could be replicated by dance makers with relatively modest organizational capacities and budget sizes. EDA staff will preview an online system that is being designed to share these models with the field.

Come learn, share your own strategies, ask questions, and leave with new ideas for engaging your own audiences Amy Fitterer and Suzanne Callahan of Dance/USA will lead the panel. Programs will include:
  • STREB’s Risky Talking, their new curated discussion series with experts in the humanities and sciences.
  • The Joyce Theater’s Going to the Dance, where audience members interact with dance luminaries and try their hand in choreographing at Your Dance Score workshops.
  • Gibney Dance’s DANCentricity, which brings high school students to their space for a cycle of activities to interact with and learn about dance from professional choreographers.
  • The Dance Enthusiast’s Dance Up Close initiative challenges the status quo of current dance communication with an expansive production of short, accessible HD videos that bring online audiences closer to the New York City dance community.
