Children's & Teens Programming Intern at Dance New Amsterdam (DNA)

 

Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) is seeking a
CHILDREN'S & TEENS PROGRAMMING INTERN

Dance New Amsterdam, Lower Manhattan’s premier education and performance center for contemporary dance, seeks a highly organized, enthusiastic Children’s & Teens Programming Intern for the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. The position requires excellent organization and communication skills, both verbal and written, an outgoing personality in interacting with families of young students, teen dancers and their group leaders, and the ability to be a ‘self-starter’ who can accomplish projects and goals on deadline while maintaining communication with staff and adhering to the mission of the organization as a whole. The ideal candidate is available 10-15 hours/week with a flexible schedule.

Start Date: Wednesday, September 5th

Compensation: The internship is unpaid, but has potential to lead to a paid position within the organization if supported by increased income from building this sector of programming. Intern will receive discounted classes and workshops at Dance New Amsterdam in Ballet, Modern, Hip Hop, Yoga, Pilates, Thai Massage, Floor Barre, Gyrokinesis, Cunningham, teacher-training and more! This is an excellent opportunity for a young-in-career arts administrator, dance education major, or arts advocate interested in building administrative and entrepreneurial skills with a vibrant performance and education center for contemporary dance.

Required Qualifications:

Organizational skills in coordinating marketing targeted at a new market sector and responding to registration requests and group bookings

Communication skills in maintaining contact with client base and coordinating with DNA Education Department & Marketing Department staff

Excellent writing skills/ability to generate effective, well-written, and exciting copy

Knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and foursquare

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines

Required Qualifications:

Experience with or knowledge of dance or dance education

Knowledge of Mindbody software a plus

DANCE EDUCATION: roster of over 140 classes each week, Teacher Training sessions in DNA’s signature Simonson Technique, Pilates instructor training, choreographic workshops

DANCE PERFORMANCE: presenting contemporary dance artists through programs beginning with Works in Progress allowing experimentation with audience feedback up to fully curated performances through DNA Presents.

ARTIST SUPPORT & ADVOCACY: involvement in Lower Manhattan Arts League, Subsidized Artist Space (SAS) office use opportunity
