Choreographers: Collaborate with a composer to present original work

Periapsis Music and Dance seeks innovative choreographers who work in any genre of dance to apply for this opportunity to work one-on-one with award-winning composer Jonathan Howard Katz to create a new 10- to 20-minute work. One choreographer will be selected to collaborate with Jonathan to create original music to accompany original dance. The resulting piece will be presented with live musicians in a concert of new works at Brooklyn’s Roulette theater on Sunday, February 17, 2013.

The selected choreographer will be responsible for his/her own studio space, costumes, dancers, etc., and will receive a modest stipend. There will be a same-day tech/dress before an 8pm concert.

This program will be the beginning of a NYC series focused on new commissions and dance/musician collaborations and will specifically aim to provide opportunities for emerging choreographers to work with live musicians and living composers.

Interested choreographers may apply by paying a $20 entry fee via PayPal (see link below) and sending the following via email to info@periapsismusicanddance.org:
1) Biography and resume, with contact information.
2) Links to 2-3 videos exemplary of your work. Full pieces preferred. If you do not have videos posted online, please contact us for other arrangements (such as mailing a DVD).
3) Optional: A proposal for the new work to be created. This need not be a fully conceived plan, but could be a concept to explore, a point of departure, a source of inspiration, etc.
