Roots In Revolution, a contemporary company, invites dance companies and solo artists to apply to perform at Know Your Roots, its first annual anniversary event. Artists of all dance genres are invited to apply though preference will be given to work that is connected to or drawn from world dance. Each applicant can submit one piece up to 10 minutes in length. Two to three pieces will be chosen to be included in the concert.

Tech Date: April 27, 2013, from 1:30-5:30 pm

Performance Date: May 3, 2013, starting at 8 pm

Location: Buttenwieser Hall, 92nd Street Y (Lexington Avenue, btw 92nd-93rd)

For the application, please check the website, www.rootsinrevolution.com. The application deadline isMarch 15, 2013. The companies/artists selected will be notified by April 8, 2013.

While there is no fee to apply, the selected companies/artists will be required to submit a $100 deposit (by money order) with your signed performance contract. The deposit will be returned immediately after the performance.

Roots In Revolution is comprised of women with diverse experiences and dance influences. Our work is "multilingual", seamlessly blending influences from traditional/folkoloric dance forms - djembe, sabar, kutiro, samba, bomba and Afro-Cuban – with more mainstream technique – modern, hip-hop and jazz. Our repertoire addresses many issues affecting women as well as issues of political and social importance in contemporary society.
