Seeking Volunteers and Interns | Battery Dance 40th Anniversary Season
Battery Dance, New York City’s cultural ambassador to the world, celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a performance highlighting the depth of its international experiences and the artistry of its dancers, enriched by guest choreographers and dancers from India, Slovenia and South Africa.
The Durga Project, a world premiere directed by Jonathan Hollander, with a commissioned score by Frank Carlberg, weaves together the movement vocabularies, sonorities and aesthetics of the U.S. and India. The concept of Durga, or Shakti, the power and energy and magnificence of womanhood, underlies and informs the piece. Inter/Ago by Tadej Brdnik, Observatory by Theo Ndindwa and an invocation by Unnath H.R. complete the program.
Dates: March-May 2016 (Immediate)
Battery Dance provides internships for students interested in experiencing the gamut of practices that constitute the field of non-profit performing arts management and the role that dance plays in society. We enthusiastically welcome interns into our management team, appreciating new voices and visions as an important and valued resource for the forward momentum of Battery Dance. The internship program is particularly beneficial for students wishing to pursue a career in arts management, budding choreographers and dance artists seeking to learn the logistics of running a dance company, and individuals who desire to affect social change through the arts, to further the art of dance both abroad and in NYC, or to gain volunteer/community service hours in a creative and engaging environment.
The New York Season intern will assist with all marketing, outreach, and promotion of the NY Season. Acting as a community representative for the Company, the intern will assist in spreading the word and in developing new partnerships with small businesses and organizations. During the week of the Season, the intern will be an important player in helping oversee logistics for the performances and for the 40th Anniversary Gala.
