Dance Teaching Artists
New York City Ballet (NYCB) is seeking talented, committed, energetic and experienced Dance Teaching Artists to join its roster for the 2016-17 school year. The NYCB Education Department produces three unique in-school residency programs, from two months to four months in length, for elementary students throughout New York City’s public schools. Residency programs reach over 200 classrooms and serve 5,500 students annually. For more information about NYCB’s school residency programs, please visit http://www.nycballet.com/educate/
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Teach age-appropriate creative movement, choreographic and interdisciplinary workshops based on NYCB curricula in New York City public schools for students in grades 1-5
-Facilitate and lead professional development workshops for classroom teachers and school administrators
-Attend teaching artist professional development sessions as well as post-residency evaluation meetings
-Carry out administrative responsibilities such as submission of assessments, teaching schedules, and payment forms on an ongoing basis
-Meet with partner school staff and faculty as needed; meet with NYCB Education Department staff as needed
Qualifications:
-Ability to demonstrate skills and experience in dance, choreography and dance education
-Knowledge of classical ballet; dance education degree preferred
-Strong commitment to working with educators and young children
-Strong classroom management skills
-Willingness to travel to schools across New York City
-Excellent communication skills
-Experience teaching in dance and creative movement, preferably in New York City public schools
-Experience teaching diverse populations (i.e., students with special needs, English language learners, etc.)
This position will include an agreement for the 2016-17 school year with the possibility to renew the agreement for the following year. Applicants should have a flexible schedule. Part-time/seasonal position with competitive wages.
