D-Wave in Motion Internship: An inside look at dance education in public schools

Dancewave seeks an Intern to assist the Executive Director and D-Wave in Motion Coordinator in the management of Dancewave’s arts in education program based in New York City public schools called D-Wave in Motion.  This internship offers an opportunity to gain experience in managing and evaluating dance residencies in public schools, while simultaneously learning about the inner workings of an arts non-profit organization.  The position presents the perfect opportunity for an intern looking to learn how to communicate with and develop programs in partnership with the public school system.  

Responsibilities include:

Assisting with the Master Class Tour, a free program in the public schools throughout the boroughs

Implement systems to track and document residency schedules

Helping oversee and observe teaching sessions

Attending and documenting final showings and performances in the schools

Helping to develop evaluative rubrics; collect and document feedback from teachers, teaching artists, students and school administrators

Helping with the general work in the Dancewave Office, as pertaining to the School at Dancewave

Assisting in writing contracts for Teaching Artists and public schools

Assisting in scheduling and pricing residencies

Maintaining D-Wave in Motion’s social media presence and visibility

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree (not required, can be in process)

Superb written and verbal communication skills

Highly detail oriented

Positive and professional demeanor, flexible, can-do attitude

Interest in Dancewave’s mission and commitment to serving youth

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) or Googledoc system

Knowledge of the dance world

 

Jan-June commitment with minimum 15-20 hours per week.  Additional hours may be required.  Monthly travel stipend available.
