Looking for additional dancers

(please read the following carefully)

David Appel is looking for additional dancers to be part of his upcoming small group project, toward performances on November 16-17 in New York City.

After several get-acquainted dancing sessions in August, the current plan is to have two 3-hour rehearsals per week during September, October, and early November. These will take place on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings, or the occasional Friday before 2pm or Saturday morning if necessary, depending on available space. Please reply only if you know that you can be there during these days/times.

What we’re doing embraces a variable mesh of improvised and set material. The ideal participant is a mature, articulate mover who improvises well (alone and with others), is open to expanding the range of their dancing in sometimes curious and unconventional ways, is willing and able to investigate a variety of performative qualities, and is comfortable with the ebb and flow of process as an underpinning for creating dances—all of which are key to how we’re working and what we’re working on. [Realistically this means that someone should probably have at least several years of professional experience beyond college/university.]

There is no rehearsal pay, but dancers will receive a significant performance fee.

We will be holding a dancing session for an invited group of people during our rehearsal on Wednesday August 1 from 6-9pm. This will be an opportunity to become familiar with some of the building blocks of the work and to dance with us, so that we can hopefully find the right fit.

If interested, please reply to appel_audition@verizon.net by July 30, with your contact information (including phone number) and a one-page resume or background summary (with dates) attached. If your combination of training and experience seems like a possibly intriguing match, the 8/1 rehearsal location will then be sent to you.

It is strongly suggested that you visit www.youtinydancer.com (the video area) to acquaint yourself with some previous small group pieces BEFORE you contact us.

Note: please respond only if you have the experience indicated above, are especially keen on this kind of work, and are willing and able to make the consistent commitment necessary to be part of realizing what we’ll be up to.

Looking forward to hearing from you, and dancing with you. Thanks!
