Call for BIPOC Writers: Somatic Movement and Dance Film Festival

Call for BIPOC Writers

Call for BIPOC Writers. Somatic Movement and Dance Film Festival, Essence of Embodiment Festival to be presented in March 2021, as part of the Curatorial Fellowship in Dance in partnership with Smush Gallery. Join us this spring in Jersey City and online, as we highlight emerging and established movement practitioners, directors, dance artists to Essence of Embodiment.

Through dance and film, we’ll be examining techniques to release fear & trauma, re-align the body with the mind while bringing together a group of multi-generational, multi-racial, dancers, artists, & writers through conversations about lessons they’ve learned throughout their careers. Ultimately exploring the theme of Somatic Awareness, Authority, and Ownership of the Body.

Accepting Submissions from January 25th to February 5th, 2021
Submission Form: http://bit.ly/3cj0NJ0

There are no fees for submission or participation.
Word count:
700 to 1500
Priority given to BIPOC writers, but all are encouraged to apply

We aim to create a community through embodiment, healing from trauma, and finding joy. These zines will act as primers for the dance films and movement classes----to broaden thinking and conversations centered around performance, relationships to food, racial identity and how that related to the body, the intersection between dance and film, and more.

We invite proposals, personal stories, research, other submissions from all fields that combine dance, somatic movement, healing, understanding trauma, PTSD, and cognition broadly construed.

Selected Authors will receive a small stipend and your work will be published in our zines, which will also include interviews, dance and somatic movement tools, artist bios, and other insights. We can't wait to work with you!
