Call for Queens - Based Choreographers

Dance Astoria Co-Producers, Nicole Ohr and Stephanie Deere, are seeking Queens – Based Choreographers for the 7th annual Dance Astoria festival held outdoors at the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria, NY. This year, the festival will take place from 3-6pm on Sunday August 22nd, 2021. After such an isolated and uncertain time, we post this submission notice with great excitement to share with our Queens dance community again!

Queens’ residents are encouraged to submit choreography from all styles of dance including contemporary, classical, and cultural dance forms. Stage is raised painted wood that will have partial marley on top. In case of rain, there is an indoor performance space. Works must be 5 minutes or less, and please keep in mind, Dance Astoria is a family-friendly event open to the public. There is no raised seating so we recommend limited floor work in order to ensure that you are visible to the audience. Additionally, this is a mask optional performance as the entire event happens outdoors. (Should we need to move indoors due to rain please be prepared to wear a mask.)

There is no fee to submit and no fee to perform if accepted.

Choreographers may apply with previously performed work, or submit a proposal for a new piece. If submitting a previously performed work, please submit a YouTube or Vimeo link of this piece. For a proposal of new work, submit a video link of previously created work (rehearsal footage is acceptable).

In order to apply, email the following information to DanceAstoria2014@gmail.com. Please also direct any questions about the festival or application process to this email. Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed or accepted. Submitting choreographers must be connected to the Queens community through residency, choreography, or dance education in some form.

Deadline to apply has been extended to Monday July 26th, 2021. Choreographers will be notified of acceptance by Wednesday July 28th, 2021.
