Seeking A BIPOC, Male Identifying Contemporary Dancer for A Wilder Project Dance Film Residency

Three dancers stand close together, waist deep in the ocean with trees behind them, looking back with presence and hope Duncan Wilder

Award-winning dance film company, Wilder Project, is casting one BIPOC, male identifying contemporary dancer for an upcoming week-long residency and filming in Acadia National Park, Maine. Wilder Project is dedicated to capturing raw humanity through movement and lens. Their 18 dance films have screened at over 40 film festivals on 5 continents winning 8 awards.

The film being developed and shot during this residency is titled "Morning" and is a tribute to all who have lost their lives from Covid-19 and all who are grieving. It will be set to a new, re-imagined recording of the Appalachian folk song Bright Morning Stars, created in collaboration with renowned musical duo Robinson & Rohe. It will be a cathartic embodiment of aliveness in relation to mourning. It will be shot on sand and in water so the chosen dancer must be comfortable dancing in nature under reasonable conditions. Dancer should also be comfortable expressing a range of emotion in their performance. The film will be a trio.

Dates: August 6-14, plus potential 1-3 rehearsals in NYC prior to residency

Location: Southwest Harbor, Maine. Dancer must be based in NYC or the surrounding areas. Transportation to Maine (from NYC) will be covered.

Compensation: $300 residency stipend, housing, transportation, and meals covered plus $18 an hour for NYC rehearsals

Accomodations: Artist will be staying in a summer cabin on the ocean with the two other dancers, the director, and the cinematographer. Home is shared with a couple other folks. Artist will share a room with one other dancer. Must be interested in a close community experience.

Vaccination: Dancer must be vaccinated for Covid-19

Deadline: A decision will be made ASAP, submit as soon as you can
