New York City Ballet is one of the foremost dance companies in the world, with a roster of

spectacular dancers and an unparalleled repertory. The Company was founded in 1948 by

George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, and it quickly became world-renowned for its athletic and contemporary style. Jerome Robbins joined NYCB the following year and, with

Balanchine, helped to build the astounding repertory and firmly establish the Company in New York. Widely acknowledged for its enduring contributions to dance, NYCB is committed to promoting creative excellence and nurturing a new generation of dancers and choreographers. It is dedicated to expanding audiences and making ballet accessible to the widest possible public through education programs, touring, media, and other

outreach efforts. 

 

The New York City Ballet (NYCB) is seeking energetic, experienced, and committed Teaching Artists in Dance and Creative Movement to join its roster for the 2021-22 school year. The NYCB Education Department produces three unique in-school residency programs, from two months to four months in length, for elementary students in New York City’s public schools.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach age-appropriate creative movement, choreographic and interdisciplinary workshops based on NYCB curricula in

New York City public schools for students in grades 1-5

• Facilitate and lead professional development workshops for classroom teachers and school administrators

• Attend teaching artist professional development sessions as well as post-residency evaluation meetings

• Carry out administrative responsibilities such as submission of assessments, teaching schedules, and payment forms

on an ongoing basis

• Participate in NYCB TA Community Discussions regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion

• Meet with partner school staff and faculty as needed; meet with NYCB Education Department staff as needed

 

Minimum Requirements

• Highest moral character and integrity

• Experience teaching dance and creative movement, preferably in New York City public schools or non-studio settings

• Knowledge of classical ballet; dance education degree preferred

• Strong commitment to working with educators and young children

• Strong classroom facilitation skills

• Willingness to travel to schools across New York City

• Excellent communication skills

• Experience teaching learners with varying needs (i.e., students with special needs, English language learners, etc.)

• Commitment to furthering personal growth in regards to equity and inclusion

 

This position is a part-time, seasonal position with competitive wages and will include an agreement for the 2021-22 school year with the possibility to renew the agreement for the following year. Applicants should have a flexible schedule.

 

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to:

Public school settings
Theater and studio settings
