Seeking 2-3 dancers for paid project

PERFORMER CALL

Seeking 2-3 professional dancers for a new dance piece in Fort Washington Park (near the Little Red Lighthouse Waterfront) choreographed by Jenny Boissiere. This project is a celebration of rebuilding community, restarting after a pandemic from a place of communal joy, connection, and empathy.

Dancer/performer should be skilled in contemporary dance styles, partnering*, and be open to improvisation and collaboration. They possess internal musicality, curiosity, and enjoy the creative process. They will also be comfortable with movement scores and learning choreography along with having the ability to think quickly on their feet.

Dancers should also feel comfortable performing outside in a public park space, in grass (wearing shoes), in the round, and without music. Because it takes place in a public park, we’ll use verbal and visual cues to communicate with the audience.

Dancers must be 18 or older and be able to fill out a W2.

BIPOC folks and community residents are strongly encouraged to apply.

*Based on dancer consent

PAY AND IMPORTANT DATES

Dancers will be paid $20/hr for rehearsal, $200 for performance day. Dancers will be paid monthly.

6/18/22 - Spacing/Tech and 2 performances (9-3pm, exact timing TBD).

6/25/22 - Rain Date (dancers will be paid $100 to hold this date).

Rehearsals in April and early May will be indoors, mostly likely in Manhattan, but could also be in Brooklyn depending on studio availability.  At the end of May and the beginning of June, there will be on-site rehearsals.

Masks will not be required for outdoor performances, but if an individual dancer would prefer to wear a mask during the performance, it can certainly be discussed with the group! We’ll also discuss how and if we’ll interact with audience members.

VIRTUAL AUDITION

Please fill out this Google Form by March 18th, 2022 with:

- A resume and headshot.

- Link to a dance reel/video of you dancing choreography. If there is more than one dancer in the video, please indicate which one is you! Any video of partnering/contact is a plus.

- A short video (this can be as little as 30 sec or as much as 2 min, filmed at home, studio, anywhere) of you improvising. Please make sure your body is in the frame and that your face can also be seen. In the improv, I’m interested in seeing your choices and movement qualities.

Selected dancers will be invited to a rehearsal on March 25th from 4-6pm (self warm-up at 3:30 pm if you’d like), location TBD. Dancers will be notified by March 28th of the final decision.
