Dance Teaching Assistant

Dances for a Variable Population (DVP) is an education and performance organization promoting strong and creative movement among older adults, is seeking qualified (English or Spanish-speaking) dance teachers available to join the teaching artist team for the 2025 season.

Candidates will receive complimentary training in the most up-to-date trainees as part of our community-based program MOVEMENT SPEAKS®. Compensation would begin at $55 per class with potential for growth to co-teacher ($70/hr) or lead teaching artist ($80-$100) for qualified and interested individuals.

Candidates will be expected to:

- Assist the lead teacher in weekly dance, fitness and creative dance-making for older adults at community centers and senior centers at multiple locations in the Bronx, Queens, and upper Manhattan.
- Help translate the language of the class to Spanish-speaking older adult participants and participate in the structure of the class accordingly, if applicable.
- Take attendance for each class and send it via email to administration staff.

Ideal candidates will possess:

- A strong passion for working with adults of all ages and have experience working with older adult populations of various socio-cultural and economic backgrounds.
- Be excellent team players be self-motivated, dependable, punctual and responsive have a strong background in at least one form of dance (ballet, modern, jazz, folk dance)
- Possess a functional understanding of anatomy and physiology especially as it pertains to the older adult.

Potential is also open to participation in DVP’s large-scale performances which feature prominent NYC choreographers and are presented at iconic public spaces.
