Dance Teaching Artist with Special Education Experience

 

Position Title: Dance Teaching Artist

Reports To: Studio Director / Education Program Coordinator

Location: MotionScoop Dance Corp.

 

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and passionate Dance Teaching Artist with expertise in special education to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who believes in the transformative power of dance and is dedicated to creating inclusive, adaptive, and engaging learning experiences for students of all abilities.

Work Schedule: Classes will occur on Saturdays from 9:00am - 11:00am starting from January 25, 2025 to April 5, 2025 in a special education high school in Elmhurst, Queens.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, and deliver dance classes tailored to diverse learning needs, with a focus on students with special education needs.

• Create a supportive and adaptive learning environment that encourages participation, creativity, and self-expression.

• Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and support staff to develop personalized strategies for each student.

• Implement various teaching methods, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic approaches, to cater to different learning styles.

• Utilize techniques in movement therapy, sensory integration, and positive reinforcement to support student growth.

• Provide ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust lesson plans as needed.

• Maintain a safe, respectful, and inspiring classroom atmosphere.

• Stay updated on best practices in dance education and special education through continued professional development.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching dance, with at least 1 year working with students with special needs.

• Knowledge of various dance styles and techniques, with a preference for expertise in creative movement, ballet, or modern dance.

• Experience in developing adaptive lesson plans and integrating Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals into dance instruction.

• Strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices and behavior management techniques.

• Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.

• CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
