The Development (Fundraising) Internship provides a unique opportunity for students to gain in-depth insight into the inner-workings of contributed income for a single choreographer institution. The Development Intern will work closely with the Institutional Giving Manager who manages MMDG’s government, corporate, and foundation giving portfolio, gaining knowledge and experience working with private foundation, government, and corporate funders. The Development Intern will gain knowledge and experience working with grant writing and management, database management, and program data analysis among other administrative processes needed for our team to prosper. This internship also provides opportunities to hone writing skills by working on proposal writing and award acknowledgment letters. The Development Intern will be surrounded by a dedicated team whose collective efforts have fostered multi-year fundraising campaigns, successful funding events, and lasting donor relationships. This dynamic internship also provides insight into other departments within our institution, including Education, Community Engagement, Operations, Dance for PD, the Company, and more. (Note: This is an in-person/onsite position.)

 

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Assist development team with all aspects of institutional fundraising including cultivation and stewardship, and donor database maintenance.

Work with the Institutional Giving Manager: research funding opportunities from current and prospective donors using online databases and prepare prospect profiles; prepare proposals and reports to various funding entities.

Work with other members of the Development Department: generate and customize acknowledgment letters, update institutional funder and donor profile records, etc.

Attend virtual, hybrid, and in-person performances (schedule permitting)

 

Qualifications: 

An interest in, and/or appreciation for the arts, performing arts, and Mark Morris’ work 

A background and/or interest in writing

Combination of creative and analytical thinking skills 

Organized and detail-oriented 

Strong work ethic 

Experience with databases (preferred but not required)
