Teaching Assistant (Ballet Tech Across New York)

Ballet Tech seeks dancers, movement enthusiasts, and aspiring dance educators to assist classes for its “Ballet Tech Across New York” (“BTANY) program in partnership with New York City Public Schools. Our BTANY assistants are passionate about arts education and building community through creative expression. They support our engagement with partner schools through physical demonstration and guided classroom management.

Responsibilities

-Assist dance classes for elementary school students in NYC public schools

-Reinforce and clarify the teacher’s instructions including prompts, directions and feedback

-Work in tandem with your teaching team to manage all aspects of the learning experience

-Contribute to a warm, welcoming, and fun learning environment for students; encourage creativity and joy

-Demonstrate sensitivity for the culture, language, religion, gender, disability, socio- economic status, and identities of individuals; promote positive self-image for students

-Communicate promptly with staff coordinators regarding scheduling and availability

Qualifications

-High School Diploma or GED

-Ability to demonstrate movement phrases 

-Openness to present options during improvisational prompts

-Availability during school hours

-Punctual and reliable

-Bilingual a plus, but not required

-Experience assisting and/or teaching dance a plus, but not required

-Willingness and ability to drive the team safely throughout the city a plus, but not required

Compensation

-$20/hour

-Team travel from Ballet Tech to partner schools and from partner schools back to Ballet Tech; training; and meetings are compensated time

-Part-Time: Hours and number of weekly shifts vary, but the daily schedule typically falls between 8:00am-3:00pm beginning and ending at Ballet Tech (890 Broadway in Manhattan)

 

If hired, applicants must be willing to be fingerprinted and submit to a background check as required by the Department of Education.
